MATERIALS IN MIND - POD BY GECA
GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia) is a purpose driven, not for profit that provides solutions for sustainable consumption and production. Their vision is for a sustainable future for people and planet. Their purpose is to create solutions for sustainable consumption and production.
Since 2000 GECA has been dedicated to enabling architects, specifiers, procurement professionals and consumers to make good choices for their clients and the environment.
Their scheme was the first of its kind in Australia, and has more Australian certified products than any other scheme. They empower architects, builders, designers and consumers to have confidence in their purchasing decisions, and trust GECA certified products to be healthier, safer, and better for the environment.
GECA have developed their own rigorous standards, following ISO 14024 principles for global best practice in ecolabelling, which are then independently audited by JAS-ANZ accredited Conformance Assessment Bodies before a product can achieve GECA certification.
Materials in Mind pod to showcase at Good Natured for Sydney Design Festival
As part of Good Natured for The Sydney Design Festival, Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) will be introducing the ‘Materials in Mind’ pop-up container home exhibit. The immersive and fully interactive upcycled shipping container showcases a range of beautiful, functional, sustainable, GECA Certified building materials and furniture within the 13 square metre space.
Throughout the built environment and interior design industries, there is an increasing focus on the environmental impact, social responsibility and the safety of products and materials.
A transparent, ethical and sustainable supply chain is essential for manufacturers in today’s industry – but how can consumers, architects and specifiers know which products are best?
As part of Sydney Design Week 2018, Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) will be introducing the ‘Materials in Mind’ pop-up container home exhibit. The immersive and fully interactive upcycled shipping container showcases a range of beautiful, functional and sustainable building materials and furniture within the 13 square metre space, all certified to GECA’s strict standards for low environmental, health and social impact.
Visitors can interact with the house via the built-in educational elements, which outline the key environmental, health and social issues associated with different building materials. Visitors will also find out how to tell the difference between manufacturers who make genuine sustainability claims and those whose claims are merely “greenwash”.
Materials in Mind will feature GECA certified flooring, plasterboard, ceiling panels, timber, paints, and other building materials, as well as a grassy ‘green roof’ and beautifully designed sustainable furniture. Visitors can contribute to the exhibit by leaving behind their wish for the planet on a collaborative wishing tree inside the house.
The Materials In Mind pod is located across from Superlocalstudio at 23 Ebley Street Bondi Junction on Sat 3 March 9am to 6pm.
